How wonderful to achieve success and to be able to say, “Before I couldn’t, and now I can!” Such was the joy experienced during our annual school swimming lessons. Everyone learnt new skills and some, faced and conquered fears along the way as well. Many students passed the level they were working towards and even those who didn’t now have improved ability in, and safety, around water which is so important in Australia.
Our Kenwick Year 3-6 students have successfully completed two weeks of daily swimming lessons at Leisure World Thornlie. We were blessed to be able to use these great facilities so close to our school with it being only a short ride from our Kenwick campus on the College buses. Each day the excited students chatted happily on the way to swimming, and then concentrated well during their lessons before once again chatting on the way back to school. It was also wonderful for the students to be able to cool off each day in the pool during the ongoing heatwaves we have been enduring lately.
Being able to engage in swimming lessons near the start of the school year ensures that all children in our school are given the opportunity to improve their skills and safety in water, and it helps them to prepare for the school swimming carnival as well. We are thankful for the swim teachers who do such a good job of teaching and encouraging our students in the pool. Most of all we are grateful to God for the blessings of the last two weeks of swimming lessons, for the joy experienced and for the perseverance shown by the students to gain new confidence and skills.
