What has the Chaplain been up to?

What has the Chaplain been up to?

Being across both campuses all three schools is challenging and rewarding at the same time!

If you are newer at Rehoboth, you might have heard that we have chaplains, but you have no idea what we do. A lot of what we do is secret squirrel stuff, as it involves one-to-one student support and individual conversations with parents and staff. We have two chaplains at Rehoboth. I work across both campuses, in all three schools, while our other chaplain is only in Secondary, but also busy with VET studies.

I aim to connect with our parents by hosting two Flourishing Families Teas in each Primary School, twice a term. This is a great place to get to know new parents and meet over a cuppa while encouraging one another. At Wilson, we focussed on our mums around Mother’s Day and at Kenwick, we invited Early Childhood parents to join us for a special Wednesday tea.

Class devotions are one of my favourite things to do and a great way for me to get into the different classrooms. I generally visit two Primary School classes per week, and I have been talking to them about the topic of God’s goodness. I landed on this topic after reading Tim Challies’s book, Seasons of Sorrow. He describes how he and his wife could face one of the hardest sorrows in their lives because they had a strong foundation and understanding of God and beautiful support from fellow believers.  I remind our students that we must remind each other of God’s goodness.

God is good all the time. All the time, God is good.

I have also been busy with the Drumbeat Program with some Kenwick Year 4’s. We discuss different topics while having fun and learning a new skill. It is encouraging to see students step out of their comfort zone with courage and work together in a team. We look at what the Bible says about things like emotions and self-control and how we can foster positive relationships.

Year 6 camp was an exhausting blast! All the kids experienced something new and met someone new while learning to be more like Christ. I also had the privilege to accompany our year 10’s to the RAC BStreetsmart Road safety day as they are on the brink of becoming driving young adults. This, of course, comes with some level of anxiety from students and parents, but we navigate our way through this and many other topics. I love hanging out with some High Schoolers at recess in my office, where we chat, play games and discuss very serious things like what doughnut you would be if you were a doughnut. 😊

Being across both campuses and all three schools is challenging and rewarding. Every day looks different as I move from the Wilson Playgroup to Year 12 ATAR exam fears. I love what I do because being part of someone’s journey is such a privilege! I love reminding our students that God, the author of their life story, has it all planned out for them, and they just need to do their best and draw near to Him.
