Rehoboth Returns to the Top of the A-League!

It is always a pleasure seeing students using their God-given gifts and showing His love through the way they played together.

On Friday 26 May 2023, following a five-year hiatus, Rehoboth returned to the WACSSA Soccer Carnival, determined to make a statement. Building on the success and popularity of the Rehoboth Primary House Competition, a team of thirteen students, which included two girls, were selected across both campuses to represent the College:

Thaddeus A

Joel Biak CN

Louie H

Nathan K

Jayson LH

Zachary M

Nathan M

Henry R

Eduardo RV

Moses SPC

Ro Sung TN

Kealeboga T

Adele V

Our team was scheduled to compete the Boys Group A Division, against six other schools. The event ran as a lightning carnival, with each team playing the others in their group once throughout the day. As there were no finals, the results would be dependent on wins and losses, and in the case of a tie, goals difference would determine the overall winner.

The carnival progressed under lovely blue skies and the occasional gentle breeze – perfect conditions for football! The team adjusted quickly to the modified sized pitches and slotted into playing some hard but fair football. The level of the opposition varied throughout the carnival, with some teams pushing us harder than others. Despite controlling much of the play, the games were not a cake walk – everyone had to play their role.

When the final game of the day came around, we faced off against Emmanuel. Interestingly, both the teams had gone undefeated throughout the carnival, so even though there would be no finals, this quickly became an unofficial one, as the winner of this game would take out the win for the Boys Group A. Things were set for an exciting final game!

In an extraordinary turn of events, following the kick off, the ball ricocheted off one of the Emmanuel players, then flew high through the air, and over the goalie’s head, for a freakish own goal! After the reset, both teams settled in for the long haul, with Rehoboth finding the back of the net before the half-time break. Emmanuel did not take it lying down, coming out in the second half and kicking a goal to keep everyone frozen in suspense. The defence held strong, and at last, the final siren sounded, confirming a victory for Rehoboth!

Special thanks go to the following Year 10 Specialist Sport students: Daniel D, Sophia H, Owen K, and Callum M. They shared the responsibility of coaching, refereeing, and being linespeople. Their assistance was an invaluable component in making the day run so smoothly, as well as the success of the team. It was also great to see several parents come down to support the students in their endeavours.

It was a thrilling way to finish the carnival, and it was great to come away with the win. However, it was made all the sweeter by the way the students worked together as a team. It is always a pleasure seeing students using their God-given gifts, also showing His love through the way they played together, as well as the way they treated the opposition players.
