Pre-Primary Blue’s Insect Discovery

Pre-Primary Blue's Insect Discovery

Insects are small, yet has tiny body parts that perform specific functions for survival and procreation!

Students in the Pre-Primary Blue class (Kenwick Primary) were very interested to learn about insects in Term 4! We had a class pet, a stick insect, which we enjoyed handling and learning about.

To expand our knowledge on insects, we had a walk-through Kindy Red’s classroom to look at their impressive display of insects.

On our return to class, the students voted which insects were their favourite.

In numeracy last term, we learnt about collecting data and representing this pictorially. Today, we used a tally system and discussed which were the most popular insects and the least popular. The butterflies were most popular, followed by the scorpions and the humble moth (the least popular). The students then drew their insect in the class ‘Floorbook.’

This will then be followed by more ‘wonderings’ about their chosen insect and research using picture books and the internet with adult support.

In addition, the students in both Pre-Primary classes have been busy like ‘ants’, hunting for insects in our playground. Every lunch time, insects are discovered from tiny dragon flies to moths, dung beetles and small spiders.

How awesome is our God, the Creator of heaven and earth! Insects are small, yet each insect (observed under a magnifying glass) has tiny body parts that perform specific functions for survival and procreation. Even the colours and designs on the body and designed with a purpose!
