Interschool Athletics Goes Down to the Wire

Interschool Athletics Goes Down to the Wire

Following our own Primary  House Athletics Carnivals, all too soon the interschool carnivals rolled around.

On Tuesday 7 November 2023, the Field Events and 800m carnival were once again held at the Gerry Archer Athletics Track. Following recent refurbishment, we returned to the WA Athletics Stadium for the Track Events carnival on Thursday 9 November 2023.

The students used their gifts in running, jumping, and throwing, representing Rehoboth to the best of their abilities. There were a number of standout performances, with six students recognised for their individual achievement across the carnivals:

Year Place Overall Student
Year 3 Boys 1st place Luke vV
Year 4 Girls 3rd place Grace M
Year 4 Boys 2nd place Finn K
Year 5 Girls 2nd place Hannah M
Year 5 Girls 3rd place Grace I
Year 6 Girls 2nd place Bethany M

Two interschool records were also broken, with Levi J setting a new record for Year 3 Boys Turbo Javelin and Hannah M for Year 5 Girls Long Jump. Well done to both students for their amazing feats!

At the beginning of the Thursday carnival, it was announced that Rehoboth was sitting in 2nd place. This gave our students further incentive to pull together and perform as a team. Consistent performances across both carnivals had Rehoboth closing the gap throughout the day, bringing the final result to be decided in the relays. The students rallied, determined not to give up.

The Grand School Relay was the final and arguably most exciting event of the day. Despite being behind in the early stages, the team clawed their way to the front to take out the final event of the carnival!

Despite their best efforts, the team just fell short by a mere 22 points, to finish 2nd place overall – an amazing achievement that has not been seen for close to a decade!

Thanks to all the family and friends that supported the team across both carnivals. Special thanks goes to Mrs Narelle Henderson, Mrs Nicole Packard, and Mr Jeff Gibson for their assistance.

Congratulations to the Rehoboth team for persevering and finishing with such gusto. We look forward to next year and another opportunity to bring God glory through the way we compete as a College, as we strive to go one better!
