Barefoot Bowls – Fathering Project

Barefoot Bowls - Fathering Project

A big thank you to Mr Norman who helped introduce the Fathering Project to Rehoboth and worked hard to establish this initiative at Kenwick Primary.

Our final Fathering Project event for 2023 was a combined Wilson Primary and Kenwick Primary event that was just for the dads. Barefoot Lawn Bowls!

Some of us were ‘experts’ (meaning we have bowled once or twice in the past 5 years) and for others, it was the first time even walking on a bowling green. Either way, the reality was that we all needed lots of practice. We got into groups of four and it was a great way to meet dads from the other campus and even those we hadn’t met from our own campus.

We were blessed to have some real experts who helped to teach us the basics of lawn bowls and before you knew it, we were off! Tips and advice were given as we slowly inched our way closer to the jack (the white ball). There were lots of great laughs as we realised how much we underestimated the skills involves in lawn bowls, but there were lots of encouragement when our bowls wandered off uncontrollably.

If the socialising and fun of lawn bowls weren’t enough, we were also blessed with an amazing sunset and balmy evening. It was such a great way to end the week, as well as the year.

As we wrap up the Fathering Project for another year, we would like to thank all the dads and children who came along to our events throughout the year. These events are meant to continue to strengthen our community and build further connections between the dads and their children, as well as with other dads.

Thank you to the dads who helped arrange and volunteer at the events this year, as well as a big thank you to Mr Norman who helped to introduce the Fathering Project to Rehoboth and has also worked hard to establish this initiative at Kenwick Primary. We uphold Mr Norman in prayer as he continues to serve God at his new school community in 2024.

Have a blessed Christmas everyone and we look forward to seeing you again at next year’s events!
