God has so thoughtfully created each season and shown us His purpose for them. We learned about our relationship with Him, our Creator, and how we can respond in delight and praise.
Spring has arrived and the Year Ones have been looking at different seasons and recording the weather. Through these last few stormy weeks, we have observed the leaves on trees changing, snails and worms crawling out of the dirt and even curious magpies wandering around our door!
In Science, the Year Ones have studied the Bibblumun Bonar (Noongar seasons) and seeing how the six Noongar seasons intertwine with our four western seasons. We had broken off into groups to research a specific season to investigate what the weather outside feels like, what animals or plants might be growing in that season and what activities we might do. Our classes really enjoyed listening to the song Bibbulumun Bonar: Six Noongar Seasons Song by Schools of Early Learning. We hope you can have a listen too!
During HASS we have investigated that symbols hold meanings, just like when we do our story maps during Talk for Writing. We explored the various ways we can communicate a story with one another. Off we went to then draw out a story that might happen within that season using Aboriginal symbols. We came up with lots of stories such as, “The kangaroo was hoping down to the waterhole to get a drink but then the men were out to catch him.” Another story goes, “The sun is shining down on the tree and the tree has caught fire.” These stories then were all combined to create a class Noongar season wheel artwork.
As we discussed weather and seasons, we spent time reflecting and pondering upon God’s wonderful creation together. We thought about why we needed different seasons. What would have happened if we only ever had summer or winter all year? God has so thoughtfully created each season and shown us His purpose for them. We learned about our relationship with God, our Creator, and how we can respond in delight and praise. The students also practised a variety of art techniques and ended this interesting unit by painting a beautiful four seasons tree!
