Our Kenwick Year 5 students enjoyed a fantastic day at Perth Zoo, exploring God’s incredible creation while investigating animal adaptations as part of their Science learning. From close encounters with fascinating wildlife to hands-on discovery and reflection, the excursion was filled with wonder, learning and memorable experiences.
It was the perfect sunny day for the Kenwick Year 5 classes to explore God’s incredible design in creation during an exciting visit to Perth Zoo. As part of their Science unit on structural and behavioural adaptations, students enthusiastically embraced the chance to Celebrate Life and Discover Patterns by examining how animals are specially designed to survive and thrive in different environments.
With the wonderful help of our dedicated staff and parent volunteers, students explored the zoo in small groups, completing a scavenger hunt packed with learning, observation, and plenty of photo opportunities along the way. There was excitement at every turn as students encountered some truly unforgettable animals.
Highlights of the day included close-up views of koalas, Tasmanian devils, orangutans, baby spider monkeys, bilbies, a chameleon, penguins, the mysterious nocturnal house, fascinating reptiles, and the impressive lions.
A visit to Zoorassic Park sparked curiosity and imagination, where students experienced animatronic dinosaurs and tried their hand at digging for ‘fossils’. Another standout moment was the new gibbon enclosure – especially when gibbons confidently traversed the ropes above our heads. Watch out below!
The zoo’s beautiful gardens provided welcome shade and a scenic backdrop, making the day both relaxing and inspiring as students reflected on the incredible creatures God has created.

As students explored creation, they were reminded of God’s handiwork, as reflected in Scripture:
- Genesis 1:21 – So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
- Genesis 1:25 – And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
It was a joyful, meaningful day of learning, discovery, and wonder—one that will be remembered as a highlight of the term.
