From coaching courtside to taking the lead, our Year 9 Specialist Basketball students brought energy, leadership and heart to the WACSSA Division 1 Carnival!
The Year 9 Specialist Basketball students had the fantastic opportunity to step into leadership roles as they coached, refereed, managed and scored for Rehoboth’s Primary Interschool Basketball teams at the WACSSA Division 1 Carnival, hosted at Willetton Basketball Association.
It was a wonderful day of community and cross-campus collaboration, with our Year 5 and 6 students benefitting from the leadership, encouragement, and basketball knowledge of the Year 9s. We were so impressed to see our Specialist Basketball students step out of their comfort zones and take on responsibilities that stretched their skills – not only in coaching and officiating, but also in teamwork, communication, and leadership.
This event was the culmination of work the Year 9s have been doing across Terms 2 and 3, where they also ran basketball clinics for our upper Primary students at both campuses. These sessions have enriched the learning experience for all Year 5 and 6s, whether or not they were directly involved in interschool carnivals. It has been fantastic to see our Secondary students put their learning into action in real-life situations, developing confidence, planning, adaptability, accountability, and building meaningful relationships.
The day at WACSSA highlighted the heart of our Specialist Basketball Class: growing as players, leaders, and role models while serving others. A huge thank you to the Year 9s for the maturity and enthusiasm they showed throughout the carnival, and congratulations to our Primary students for their effort and sportsmanship on the court!
