There were board games about castles, crusades and catastrophes, about collecting, curing, capturing, and conquering!
This term, the English and HASS departments ran a bit of an experimental program for Year 8. In small groups, students had most of the term to research, design, develop and create a board game based on the in-depth studies in HASS and using literacy strategies developed in English. This proved to be a very challenging task. Students were engaged in learning and developing their products right up until our Open Day in Week 8. This was the week in which the rest of the school and many of our parents came to try out these games.
Our school community had an absolute blast as they sat down to play. There were games about castles, crusades and catastrophes, about collecting, curing, capturing and conquering. Many of the games on offer were beautifully produced, and most were lots of fun to play.
There were some major awards and prizes given. Congratulations to Hayeong J, Esme S, and Neybah R (who branded themselves as ‘HEN Productions’ for taking out the award for Best Game with their entry, The Kings’ Crusade’. All in all, the experiment was a success, and we hope to do it all again next year. Thank you to parents who came along to support and enjoy their children’s work.
