Year 8 Board Game Showcase: Creativity in Action

Our Year 8 students wrapped up the term with an incredible display of creativity and strategy at the Board Game Showcase. From science-inspired concepts to stunning game art, the event was a celebration of innovation and collaboration.

After weeks of solid work in our Year 8 English classes this term, we wrapped up the year with an open day showcasing our very own board and card game projects. Year 8 students were put into small groups and had to design and produce a game based on a given science concept. These weren’t your everyday ripoffs of Uno and Monopoly though. These were real, original, strategy-based games and the open day was a testament to our students’ creativity.

Twenty-five playable games were set up between the LRC and surrounding rooms, and the whole Secondary school was invited to try them out. Parents also came in the afternoon to show their support. It was a full day of fun and, well, games, and all of our visitors were impressed with the design quality of the games on offer. Our secret judges wandering around found it very difficult even to create a shortlist!

But in the end, they were able to come together to make a decision. We would like to congratulate the three prize-winning groups:

BEST GAME:
Turf War by Adelinas Games (Adele van den Bos and Angelina Moriera)

BEST GAME ART:
Experiment-13 by Gradient Games (Joelyn Wong, Eleanor Waldron, Pradeepthi Sarvepalli)

HIGHLY COMMENDED:
Cosmo Web by Webber Games (Jayden Frost and Jun Roh)

We would also like to congratulate our XP AWARD winners – groups who won the most milestone competitions along the way:
Kiwi Tree (Lucca Thiel and Sienna Bryce)
That Green Grape (Anna Kuipers, Bethany Moylan, Clara Eriksen)
The Tasty Board Game Brand (Keira Beaver, Sophia Burcham, Leilani Lebbos)

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents who attended. It was wonderful to see you there!
