Our Year 7 and Year 8 students recently participated in an interesting incursion event focused on Chinese culture, organised by the Chung Wah Association. The event offered a unique opportunity for students to experience some Chinese traditions.
Students had the opportunity to engage in four interactive sessions:
- History of the Early Chinese Settlers in WA: Students learned about the history of Chinese migration to Western Australia and the experiences and contributions of early Chinese settlers.
- Chopsticks and Eating Etiquette: In this hands-on session, students learned the art of using chopsticks and were introduced to traditional Chinese dining etiquette.
- Chinese Musical Instruments: Students had the chance to listen to the captivating sounds of the Pipa and Erhu, which are traditional Chinese instruments. They also learned about the cultural significance of these instruments.
- Chinese Handkerchief Dance: Our students also enjoyed practicing the handkerchief dancing, which is a traditional Chinese folk dance.
The event was fantastic with students enthusiastically participating in each session. They particularly enjoyed the hands-on activities like using chopsticks and spinning handkerchiefs, as well as the music performances. Many have expressed their excitement for future opportunities to explore more about Chinese culture.
We are grateful to the Chung Wah Association for providing such an enriching experience for our students and look forward to more cultural activities in the future.
