Recently in Year 6 we have been diving deep into two projects, one relating to the land of Israel and the other being a Bible Timeline. This helped us reflect on everything we have learned at school from Kindy all the way through until now.
Students have been working hard to create detailed posters with drawn maps of Israel and its surrounding countries. They carefully plotting key bodies of water like the Mediterranean Sea, Dead Sea, and Sea of Galilee. Cities such as Beersheba, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Nazareth have been highlighted, alongside historical locations like the Garden Tomb and the Garden of Gethsemane. Students created a legend for their maps and have been researching the Biblical history of these locations.
This project reminds us that even though Israel may seem small in size, its impact on history and God’s plans for His Kingdom is immense. As one student put it, “I did not realise how many important places were in such a small country. It is like a real-life treasure map!”
Alongside this, we have been building a Bible Timeline where students reviewed major events from the Bible and placed them in chronological order. This has helped them to see the bigger picture of God’s story. Through videos and class discussions, they have learned how many books are in the Old and New Testament, how many authors contributed to the Bible over the span of time, the original languages the Bible was written in, and the different literary styles and categories of Bible books.
One student reflected, “It is amazing to think about how the Bible was written over thousands of years but still tells one big story!”
We are so proud of how our Year 6s are engaging thoughtfully in Christian Studies, setting a strong foundation of their faith in their final year at primary school.
