Year 5 Gospel Investigations

We are grateful to God for this opportunity to learn about the authors of the Gospels as we now understand how each account brings a unique perspective on who Jesus is.

This term in Year 5, we are studying the birth of Jesus and His early ministry. Before jumping straight into reading the Gospels and studying Jesus’ teachings, we firstly decided it was important to understand the context behind each author of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).

We set off on an investigation asking questions about each author such as:

  • Were they a Jew or a Gentile?
  • What was their profession?
  • When was this book written?
  • Did this author die a martyr?
  • Was he one of the twelve disciples?
  • What was Jerusalem like at this time?

Along with many others!

By investigating the authors Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, we are now able to understand the parables, teachings and life of Jesus more accurately and apply His teachings to our 21st Century Christian worldview. Everyone presented their information to the class in the form of a video, infographic, poster or PowerPoint.

This is what some of the Year 5 students had to say about this project:

We are grateful to God for this opportunity to learn about the authors of the Gospels as we now understand how each account brings a unique perspective on who Jesus is. We thank God for His Word and how freely we have access to it in Australia.
