Was It a Bird? Was It a Plane?

The Fathering Project group exists to encourage fathers at Rehoboth to connect, celebrate and recognise their impact.

Friday 10 March saw over 60 of our Kenwick dads (affectionately known as the FORKK’S Fathers of Rehoboth Kenwick Kids) come together for the first Fathering Project event of 2023. The pizzas were ordered, the paper was primed, and dads with kids in tow set about tasting, testing, and trialling the night away.

A sense of calm settled on the oval once the dads and kids had descended into consuming the 90+ pizzas that had been ordered. Then the real competition of the night got underway. The rules were set, and focus soon turned to the design, testing and challenge of trying to find the plane you had thrown.

The competition was fierce in the early years with a different winner in each of the heats, with the actual result being determined by a fly off. The Middle and Upper Primary heats had clear winners, with many of the competitors employing techniques learnt from testing throughout the week. All the primary heat winners received a Nerf gun for their hard work.

Then it was the dads’ turn. This was where things started to get competitive, with many throws going the entire length of the basketball court. The new competition of the night – the bucket shot, required the dads to team up with one dad going for distance and then the other dad for accuracy (to get their plane into the bucket). With only one plane floating above all the others, landing in the bucket, there was a clear winner. Everyone pitched in to clean up and one by one the weary dads and kids left for home.

A good night was enjoyed by all. We would love to see you if you are a father or a father figure at our next event/s. This group exists to encourage the fathers at Rehoboth to connect and celebrate and recognise their impact.
