When wild weather transformed the playground with fallen branches and puddles, our Pre-Primary Red students saw endless opportunities for adventure, creativity and fun. Through cubby building, collaborative play and joyful exploration in the rain, the children demonstrated resilience, imagination and a wonderful ability to find joy in every circumstance.
We have all heard the saying:
“When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade…”
But in Pre-Primary, when strong winds bring down branches, we build cubbies!
This month, our playground told the story of some very wild weather. Strong winds had scattered leaves and brought branches tumbling down. Where some might see a mess, our Pre-Primary children saw an opportunity for creativity, teamwork and joy.
So before Mr. Hird had a chance to remove the branches…with great excitement, the children gathered sticks, branches and leaves, working together to design and build their very own cubbies. There were “homes,” “secret hideouts,” and even “shops” popping up across the space! Their imaginations were alive as they collaborated, shared ideas, solved problems and showed wonderful perseverance—rebuilding when things didn’t quite go to plan.
And then… the rain came.
But that didn’t stop the fun! Out came the gumboots and raincoats, and before long the playground was filled with laughter as children splashed in puddles, danced in the rain, and continued their play with great delight. What could have been seen as a reason to stay inside became another beautiful opportunity to embrace the moment and enjoy God’s creation.
While we view the outdoors as an extension of our classroom, sometimes we do have to come inside! The creativity doesn’t stop, and nor does the learning… Indoors, the children continue to build, create, imagine and explore—whether through construction, role play, drawing or storytelling. The same curiosity and joy carry seamlessly from outside to inside.
Moments like these remind us of the importance of perspective. Challenges can become opportunities when we approach them with creativity, resilience and joy. This experience connects beautifully with the Bible verse:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.” – Romans 8:28
From windy branches to rainy puddles, we saw how God can bring good from every situation. What began as wild weather became a chance for learning, connection and joy-filled play.
In Pre-Primary, we keep nurturing this mindset—encouraging children to look for possibilities, to be resilient, and to trust that even when things change, something wonderful can grow.
Because in Pre-Primary, we don’t just make lemonade… we build cubbies, dance in the rain, grow friendships, and strengthen hearts along the way.
