The Lord Establishes Our Steps

The Lord Establishes Our Steps

I find myself being inspired and challenged by my students’ love and desire to know more about God.

Whenever I’m asked about my teaching experience and what it’s like to be at Rehoboth, I simply can’t help but go on and on about how remarkable this school is. One of my fond memories so far is seeing our students desire to read the Bible. I had brought in all these new books for them but from all the various books they could’ve picked, some just wanted to read the Bible. It may not seem like a big deal, but I was so moved. Although I’m the teacher and I’m meant to be setting the example for them, I find myself being inspired and challenged by their love and desire to know more about God.

If you had asked me last year, during the final stretch of my teaching degree, where I envisioned beginning my teaching career, Rehoboth wouldn’t have been on my list. Back then, I was set on joining a public school, hoping to let my faith subtly influence my work to bring impact in a non-Christian environment. But as life often has it, a different plan unfolded for me.

Much like the verse in Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps,” I found myself unexpectedly at Rehoboth as I begin my teaching career. This journey has profoundly shifted my perspective towards Christian education. If I was to be honest, before I was sceptical, thinking that Christian schools were out of touch with reality and students were just being “sheltered”. However, I’ve soon discovered this is not the case and have fallen in love with this faith-filled community where the gospel and learning intertwine so beautifully.

All in all, everyday I count my blessings for the privilege I get to be a part of this family at Rehoboth!
