Students Shine at Indonesian Consulate General Perth Awards

On Tuesday 28 May, the Indonesian Consulate General in Perth hosted its Second Annual Student Awards. These awards recognise outstanding students who studied Indonesian in Year 8 and Year 10 during 2023 and continued their language studies this year.

Guests in attendance included the Indonesian Consulate General, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education Australia, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs Australia, and WA Members of Parliament. Additionally, delegates from 25 schools across WA participated in this celebration.

Rehoboth received a Certificate of Appreciation for its commitment to promoting and teaching Indonesian as part of its language programs.

We proudly announce that 10 Rehoboth students, nominated by the Secondary Indonesian teacher, received awards:

Year 9

  • Zoe Grace Ong
  • Evie Howard

Year 11 ATAR Second Language

  • Samuel Richards
  • Daniel Saw

Year 11 ATAR Background Language

  • Heather Grace Ong
  • Aaron Lau
  • Don-Joseph Dowling
  • Madelaine Sendjojo
  • Lovenia Anggadjaja

Year 12 ATAR First Language

  • Annamary Vania Christian Handoyo

Each winner received an award certificate and a $25 Dymocks gift voucher, totalling $250.

Following the ceremony, participants engaged in quizzes with three grand prizes: international airfare return tickets for the top three winners. Remarkably, two Rehoboth students, Samuel Richards (Year 11) and Zoe Grace Ong (Year 9), outperformed 75 top Indonesian students from 24 schools, securing two of the three ticket prizes valued at $1500.

The event also featured an Indonesian cultural performance, dinner, and food demonstration. Students had the opportunity to deliver speeches about their Indonesian language learning experiences. Samuel Richards, representing Rehoboth, delivered an impressive speech in Indonesian without any notes.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Senior Leadership and Secondary staff, especially Mrs Louwen, Mr Marlow, and Mr Peletier, for their unwavering support and prayers. Special thanks to Mr Liberty Carter, Mrs Nightingale, Mrs Burcham, and Mrs Morine for their kind assistance.

Our students’ language skills, dedication, and talent inspire us.

Soli Deo Gloria, to God be the glory!
