From the first splash of spring to the sun-soaked days of summer, our Year 2s have dived into the joy of play
Spring has sprung and with it comes the delightful warmth of the sun, leading us into a new season of Summer. As Summer approaches, so does the smell of sunscreen, deliciously sticky icy poles and the cooling balm of a swimming pool on our sweltering hot days. As Year 2s, we have quite literally “dived” into our Biblical Thread of Relishing Play, as we have frolicked through the waters of Weeks 3 and 4 at Cannington Leisure Plex for Swimming lessons.
In amongst our play, some of the Year 2s have had to tread in the tumultuous currents of Overcoming Setbacks as they have faced fears and anxieties around the changing of routine, new swim coaches, being in groups they may not have friends in, and even bravely faced the waters they were unsure of. With us floating alongside them, we are so proud of how they have fared and courageously swam on! As both a parent and teacher, I am filled with gratitude as I have watched the students and my children, delight in the adventure of it all and along the way be equipped with life skills that are a necessity to embracing the many sandy summers ahead of them.
The team of coaches that have trained the students have been truly wonderful and kind, gliding at a pace that has made the students feel safe as well as encouraging them onwards to learn new skills and see growth. They have learnt Water Safety as well as various skills focusing on their foundational skills of swimming, laying the groundwork for them to splash on through the years.
Let us keep practising our water safety skills and breathing in the smell of the well applied sunscreen as we be sun smart. As we paddle on towards summer holidays, may your days be filled with cooling waters and sweetly sticky icy poles, as we learn how, ourselves, to relish play as our children model it so well to us.
