Settling Into Year 1

Settling Into Year 1

It has been a fantastic start to our first term at school! Our Year 1 classroom in Wilson has been buzzing with lots of learning, laughter, fun and games!

The students have settled so well as they learn new routines and get introduced to new subjects like Mandarin Language and Digital Technology!

Each morning we start our day with the song ‘Thankful – I Wanna Be’ by Lifetree Kids, which reminds us to be grateful and to thank God for all the blessings in our lives.

We have been focusing on building a strong and loving community within the classroom, which reflects one of the Biblical threads of Rehoboth. To foster this, we have set up various team-building games and activities to build trust and respect among each other. As a class, we have discussed about friendships and ways to communicate with others kindly.

We have also been having fun playing small group games to build on communication, patience and turn-taking skills among each other!

Bible lessons have been very exciting too as we ponder upon God’s wonderful creation and learn more about our loving and gracious Heavenly Father. As we study and learn stories from the book of Genesis, we have been reflecting on some of these questions:

  • “Who is God to us?”
  • “Why do we worship Him?”
  • “How can we show God’s love to people around us?”

Apart from discussions about God and His creation, the students have enjoyed nature walks around the College and reflected examples of God’s creation through drawings and artworks. It has been amazing to observe the artistic skills and talents that each child brings to the class.

We also had a fun time creating self-portraits using collage materials as we got reminded about our identity in Christ and being a child of God!

The Year 1 class is looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing together in our classroom community!

Ephesians 4:32 – “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
