Reading helps us to grow in our knowledge about words, the world, others, ourselves and God. Reading can also inspire us to imagine, wonder and think about new ideas and all the things that God has put in front of us.
The much-anticipated Book Week Parade was held on Friday 1 September at the Wilson Campus. The Gym was a-buzz with excitement as students from Kindy to Year 6 showcased their colourful and creative character costumes. There was a walking-wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia, Augustus Gloop made an appearance after eating all the chocolate in Mr Wonka’s factory.
This year the Children’s Book Council of Australia decided that the theme of reading is Magic. We decided to change it to Reading is Wonder as we wonder and marvel at God’s beautiful creation and the wonder He has put into our hearts. Reading helps us to grow in our knowledge about words, the world, others, ourselves and God. Reading can also inspire us to imagine, wonder and think about new ideas and all the things that God has put in front of us.
It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how reading shapes who we are. The students were encouraged to think about the qualities of characters in books and to consider the types of characteristics that God desires in us, His children. We always marvel at the creativity that is on display during the parade and how much effort children and parents put into their costumes. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it such a fun and inspiring event.
At Rehoboth, we value special community events like Book Week and the opportunity it gives us, not just to celebrate all things books, but to consider what we read as people who want to grow and be inspired to live like Jesus!
