About

Our Education

The Christian school is an exciting and challenging environment. Students are encouraged to develop all of their abilities – academic, artistic or whatever – in faithful response to the Lord. They are challenged to think. They may at times feel uncomfortable as they tackle the difficult issues of life. They develop an eternal perspective and God’s supreme authority to deal with life’s challenges.

Dr Richard Edlin

At Rehoboth, we provide a complete educational program from Kindergarten through to Year 12, with programs for Early Learning, Primary, Year 7 Transition, and Secondary.

Every student is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Because of this, they deserve to be respected and valued. All our education programs aim to provide a range of activities that allow students to explore the gifts that God has given them, and provide opportunities to develop their individual skills. Our programs seek to help students see that their whole lives – whether at school, at home, or wherever they happen to be – comes under the Lordship of Christ.

With over 50 years’ experience in Christian education, Rehoboth has earned a reputation for developing and delivering strong, distinctly Christian curriculum. Our teaching staff undergo continual professional development that gives them the tools and resources they need to not only implement the Australian Curriculum, but shape it with a Christian worldview so that Christ becomes the lens through which our students view their learning and growth. Teachers are expected to be servant-leaders and imitators of Christ (Philippians 2), and are also encouraged to openly share their faith and Christian experiences, allowing students to see this world view in action.

All our teaching staff are highly qualified in their areas of expertise and registered with the Teacher Registration Board of WA. They are also all active, practising Christians, who understand our parents’ desire to raise their children in the fear of the Lord. Many of our staff also have their own children enrolled at Rehoboth.

Christ-centred education has become a popular phrase in recent years. While this is certainly where the heart of a Rehoboth education is (and has always been), our goal in making Christ central to everything we do is to have students see Him as sovereign over all aspects of their lives. This is what we refer to as a distinctly Christian education. It is a particular worldview embedded in our educational programs that challenges students to think deeply about how their education and faith intersect.

We have developed three core principles that underpin and help to explain our unique approach to education:

Purpose

This describes how our education programs invite students to see the world through the lens of Christ and from the perspective of God’s Word. When Jesus is central to learning and to life, we see students instilled with His purpose for their lives.

Partnership

Students are encouraged to develop an understanding of how Christian principles apply to every area of their lives as part of a three-way partnership between home, church, and school.

Preparation

We believe a whole-child philosophy is necessary in order for students to grow academically, spiritually, physically, and emotionally, so that they are prepared to become people of outstanding character and citizenship.

We are committed to this kind of distinctly Christian education at Rehoboth and aim to cultivate students who do not accept mediocrity and are prepared to be different: students of character who are able to demonstrate and articulate the message of Jesus throughout their lives.

The aim of a distinctly Christian education is to achieve a standard of excellence in the teaching of all subjects, from both an academic and spiritual perspective, and which in all things brings glory to God alone. At Rehoboth, the hallmarks of this standard include:

  • Encouraging each student to love God with their whole being – heart, soul, mind, and body – as well as their neighbour.
  • Promoting a creative, vibrant, and positive view of life’s learning experiences.
  • Teaching to the highest academic standards and bringing out the best, God-given potential of each student.
  • Developing a kingdom vision in a broken world.
  • Providing an environment where students have the freedom to explore Jesus Christ openly and in all areas of life and learning.
  • Recognising each child as a unique human being, made in God’s image, and uniquely gifted and called by Him.
  • Encouraging thankfulness to God rather than focus on self.
  • Training students in how to use and develop the abilities which God has endowed them.

Kindergarten and Pre-Primary provide children with the all-important first steps they need to adjust to life at school. Utilising the Early years learning Framework (EYLF), our Early Learning program seeks to:

  • Build up your child in their knowledge, faith, and love of God
  • Foster all areas of your child’s development
  • Develop in your child a sense of wonder and discovery in learning

We operate two K-6 Primary campuses at Wilson and Kenwick. Our Primary students benefit from dedicated and loving Christian teachers who give personalised attention, and from the opportunity to form close, supportive relationships with fellow students from other Christian families. The main aim of our Primary program is to confirm the love of God by nurturing, equipping, and training all of our students in the ways of the Lord. As well as meeting Australian Curriculum standards, our Primary program offers a range of experiences, including:

  • Year 6 Leadership Camp
  • Primary After School Sports (PASS)
  • Literature Appreciation
  • Strong NAPLAN testing
  • Introduction to homework
  • Instrumental Music Program
  • Primary Choir
  • Health and PE
  • Mandarin LOTE program

The transition from Primary to Secondary school is an important stage in your child’s development. Research has shown that when this transition is done in a way that recognises the developmental changes that young adolescents are undergoing, the process can become a positive one. We prepare our students for this transition with a dedicated, structured Middle School program which acknowledges the implications that early adolescence has upon learning and is designed to assist students to take on the unique challenges that Secondary brings.

Our Endeavour Program incorporates elements of our Primary and Secondary programs to create a package tailored to this age group. This is done by designing a curriculum that is full of hands-on, learning-rich activities which are designed to not only engage students, but teach them problem solving skills, creativity, and ways of learning that will benefit their later years of study.

Our aim for the Endeavour Program is to develop the potential of each student so that they are prepared for upper Secondary, and to see them learn and grow in their understanding of God’s world and their place in it.

Some of the key features of the Endeavour Program include:

  • Coordination by a Year 7/8 Team Leader and a team of staff dedicated to this group
  • Study skills and personal organisation development program
  • Student leadership, providing opportunities to lead, serve, and input into the life of the College
  • Canberra Trip, complementing work done on the Australian Government as part of the Year 7 curriculum
  • Year 8 Missions Trip
  • Digital Discipleship Program
  • A focus on building resilience within students
  • A gradual increase in the number of teachers
  • Orientation days in the Secondary School
  • Practical problem solving, group and collaborative work, community-based learning, and team-teaching
  • Communication and social skills training
  • Home rooms for Year 7 and 8 classes
  • Introduction to the Science labs and specialist learning areas such as Food Science and Design and Technology
  • Form teachers providing pastoral care
  • LEX@R learning extension program expanded to Year 7-8
  • Introduction to exams and final term tests

In this rapidly changing world, where advances in technologies greatly impact the way in which we live our lives, it is vital that students leave the College with an understanding of who they are in God, and where they belon. At Rehoboth, we recognise that our students need to be equipped to live in this world with courage, compassion, and discerning minds, and graduate with a strong, Godly roadmap which will allow them to navigate the many twists and turns that lie ahead.

With traditional Christian values being eroded and replaced by an, “If it feels good, do it” philosophy, young Christian men and women need to be able to answer some hard questions in their first years out of College; questions like, “Why go to church?”, “Why obey God?”, and even “Who am I?” Our Secondary program is designed to provide students with both the academic foundations they will need to move onto tertiary studies (should that be the direction they wish to go), and to be prepared and confident as they take their place in the world.

The selection of courses we offer provide the prerequisites for almost all university courses. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check the entry requirements for any university courses that you may be considering. The Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC) or Career Centre in Perth offer a great starting place for this information. Parents and students need not feel that a Christian education compromises academic integrity.

In addition to our standard course offerings, the Secondary program also includes:

  • Strong WACE performance and university entry for graduates
  • Expanding VET program
  • UMAT Testing
  • Workplace learning
  • Philippines Mission Trip (Year 11 and 12)
  • Study Retreat (Year 11 and 12)
  • Leonora Bush Mission Trip (Year 10)
  • Student Council
  • Instrumental Music Program
  • Maths Tutoring
  • Access to education support
  • Health and PE program
  • Sustainable School Shop for second-hand textbook trading

Rehoboth provides eligible students with access to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Program. This is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience and recognised qualifications in an area of interest.

The Program involves South Metro TAFE and North Metro TAFE studies one day a week (on a Friday), or two days a week (on a Thursday and Friday) for pre-apprenticeships. Students are able to select courses from the lists by South Metro TAFE and North Metro TAFE. The full list of VET courses as well as application information is available from our VET Coordinator.

There are no tuition costs to the College or to the student to participate, although a few courses may require the purchase of a textbook or special protective clothing and footwear. There is no reduction in College tuition fees for students participating in a VET course.

We also offer fee-for-service courses (these are paid by parents and include payment plan options with the training organisation) at private training organisations such as Fremantle Education Centre, Mount Pleasant College, MPA Skills and DNA Kingston. Several of these offer Certificate IV courses which can give entry to some university courses as an alternate pathway.

A Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies is offered through Central Regional TAFE. This is also a fee-for-service arrangement.

Applications for VET courses are offered to current Year 10 and 11 students. Applications for South and North Metro TAFE close at the end of August. Students will be notified of opening and closing dates and how to apply. Several factors are taken into consideration when deciding who will benefit from these courses, and an interview with our VET Coordinator is required.

Our aim is to provide an outstanding education for our students. High-quality teaching and learning experiences are the key drivers of this, but we also believe there are considerable educational benefits to a technology-rich learning environment. We therefore aim to utilise a broad range of technology as tools in the delivery of curriculum. Our ICT program seeks to build these resources into those areas of student learning where they will be most appropriate and can be expected to yield the strongest educational outcomes.

All students in Years 4 to 12 are issued a Microsoft Surface Pro device along with a Microsoft account. Students retain these devices either until they are replaced by the College or the student’s course of study ends. Most classrooms are equipped with electronic whiteboards, data projectors and similar audio-visual devices.

The goals of our ICT program are:

  • To have students spend time engaging in collaborative work and participating in project-based instruction.
  • For students to be enabled to direct their own learning and readily engage in problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • To have ICT devices lead to more student writing and writing of a higher quality.
  • To increase access to information while improving research and analytical skills.
  • To have students consistently show deeper and more flexible uses of technology.
  • To have students spend more time doing homework on computers.
  • To enable students to become lifelong learners.
