On Monday 22 November, the Year 5/6 and Year 6 classes from Kenwick travelled to Canning River Eco Education Centre to participate in a day of studying God’s creation. The students participated in two interactive programs, one called ‘Take a Dip’ and the other called ‘Weir-D Science’.
In ‘Take a Dip’, students samples and recorded the amazing and diverse macroinvertebrate/micro-invertebrate communities that live in the river. Students used field equipment to investigate the critical role of aquatic life in maintaining the health of the wetland ecosystems.
In ‘Weir-D Science’, students compared fresh and saltwater ecosystems by conducting salinity tests on either side of the Kent Street Weir and they mapped changes in vegetation along the river.
