We raised over $1,182 for Open Doors, supporting persecuted Christians worldwide and were inspired by guest speaker, Steve Swenson’s stories of faith and prayer.
Rehoboth had its Secondary Mission Support Day, with the dress-up theme of alphabet attire. Each form class was assigned an alphabet, and everyone came dressed in a costume related to that alphabet. It was a great success, with some of the most extravagant and enthusiastic participation of any Mission Support Day yet! From ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ for ‘A’, to ‘dinosaur’ for ‘D’, to ‘Mrs van Zyl’ for ‘V’. almost everyone put in an effort to be creative and fun. Even the teachers went all out and came dressed in attire corresponding to the letter of their department – all the Science teachers came dressed as ‘students’, and the English teachers as ‘eshays’ (yes, you read that correctly).
Everybody brought a gold coin donation to support this term’s mission – Open Doors, a mission organisation that aims to support persecuted Christians around the world. Along with students’ generous donations, earlier in the term, the Year 12 student council sold icy poles as a fundraiser, and more recently, the house captains organised another fundraiser selling cold drinks. All in all, together we raised a fantastic total sum of $1,182.30, which will be spent providing aid to persecuted Christians around the world, through Open Doors. We are so proud of the generosity of our students and their efforts to help others in need.
The week following Mission Support Day, on 20 March, we had the opportunity to join together as a school at our Term 1 mission assembly. Starting with congregational singing; students, teachers, and parents alike praised God for the blessings we’ve been given and for our ability to support others. Additionally, we were lucky to be joined by Steve Swenson, a representative of Open Doors who came all the way from NSW to be our guest speaker. He gave us context on Open Doors, and shared about the power of prayer through stories that inspired all of us. God is still performing miracles today!
In all of this, we thank God for the wonderful community of our school!
