Making Maths Engaging and Hands-On

The incursion was a fantastic opportunity to experience maths beyond the classroom – interactive, thought-provoking, and genuinely enjoyable.

Students in Years 7 to 9 recently took part in the World of Maths incursion – an interactive and exciting experience that brought maths to life through hands-on problem solving. Guided by the enthusiastic presenter, Sasha Hentz, students worked in teams to tackle a series of practical challenges designed to stretch their thinking and sharpen their teamwork skills.

Each station offered a unique puzzle or task, from logic games to measurement and geometry challenges, with one of the crowd favourites being a puzzle box that could only be unlocked with precise thinking and collaboration. The activities highlighted how maths applies to the real world in fun and unexpected ways.

Teachers were impressed with the high level of student engagement, and many students described it as one of the most enjoyable maths sessions they’ve had. The incursion was a fantastic opportunity to experience maths beyond the classroom – interactive, thought-provoking, and genuinely enjoyable.
