Learning Many New Things in Mandarin

We found it hard at times to learn the words and characters in Mandarin, but we enjoyed taking on new challenges.

你好 (Ni Hao) Hi everyone!

Please join me in our Mandarin classes and let’s have some fun!

In our Year 1 and 2 classes, we have been learning and practicing colours. We love the Colour Hunt game and describing the colours of the ‘treasure’ we found in class. We also appreciate the colourful world God has created for us. Our Year 1 and 2 students have been practicing how to pray in Mandarin. It is wonderful to be able to praise God in different languages.

Our Year 3 and 4 classes have been busy learning about sports. We talked about popular sports in China and Australia and learned how to say and write sentences about sports. We also played ‘Chinese Charades’ where you can only say your guesses in Mandarin. Our Year 3s used their amazing creativity when preparing props for their acting and we had lots of fun.

Our Year 5 and 6 classes are learning about time. We talked about the different expressions when asking and answering about time. It felt like we were having a Maths class in Mandarin. We found it hard at times, but we like taking on challenges. Our Year 5 students also finished their cultural research on the Dragon Boat Festival in China and reflected on their findings from a Biblical perspective.

It has been a busy but rewarding term so far, and I pray for a fruitful time in our coming Mandarin classes for the rest of the term.
