Throughout the year, our Pre-Primary students have shown incredible dedication, overcoming challenges and supporting each other as they journeyed from learning the alphabet to creating their own storybooks!
Over the year, our Pre-Primary Blue students in Kenwick have worked incredibly hard, overcoming setbacks and collaboratively helping others, on our journey to reading and writing. We have whizzed through the sounds of the alphabet, moving onto sounding out words and remembering how to put the sounds back together. We have worked hard as detectives, trying to unlock the mystery of the alphabet… and wow have they succeeded!
This term, using our new knowledge of how to read and write, we have begun a different journey together, into the world of creative writing, books, authors, and illustrators! We set out to make our own Story books. Being both the author and the illustrator, we had our work cut out for us, but that did not dampen our spirits as our imaginations whirred into action!
First, we learnt about narrative structure, that stories need a beginning, middle, and end. We practised thinking of a story and told it to our friends using our very loved puppets. We were getting very excited at the endless possibilities!
Next, we started to work on our story plan, drawing out our characters, setting and the problem we were going to have in our stories. These drawings were incredible, and once they were done, we were ready to start work on our official story books.

During this learning journey, we have pondered on our Biblical threads, learning that God has made us to ‘express words’, and to ‘reflect creativity’ in our work. Some students have ‘overcome setbacks’ in their work and learnt the importance of ‘transforming thinking’ as they learn to build others and themselves up with their words.
What a joy and privilege it has been to see our students grow and develop into the people God has made them to be. Everyday, I am blown away by how our students ‘reflect creativity’, in their work and play, reflecting the creativity of the Author of Life, our Creator. Praise the Lord.
