Our Years 1–3 students recently took part in the engaging World of Maths incursion, where they explored mathematical thinking through a range of hands-on challenges, puzzles and collaborative activities. The experience encouraged problem-solving, perseverance and teamwork, while helping students discover the patterns and order God has woven into His creation.
God is the creator of everything, including the principles that govern mathematics. When He made the world, He established how everything would function. Each time we solve a mathematical problem successfully, it can be viewed as evidence that the rules and laws God put in place are still at work. This can strengthen our faith, reminding us that God is constant and sovereign over His creation.
Our Year 1 – 3 students recently got to experience a collaborative and thought-provoking mathematics incursion. World of Maths is an interactive, travelling maths show that seeks to use real-life examples to present complex math problems in creative ways. It uses a hands-on approach, where students are encouraged to have-a-go at solving each scenario and enjoy learning mathematics while they are working. Some of the Year 4 students helped the Year 1 and Year 2 students to help them understand what to do in order to complete and enjoy each activity.

- “I enjoyed it because we got to do lots of tricky things and I like to have a challenge in a group, where they listen to me and we follow each other’s ideas. I would say ‘Yes’ to doing this again.” – Benjamin Taylor Year 3

- “My favourite activity was the one where you built the stairs, and the triangle problem where we had to get the balls on strings to a number. I would like to do this again.” – Jonathan Cheng Year 3

- “It was good! We played math games. I liked the one on the stage the best. It had numbers with balls going into them and we had to count how many points we had. I would like to do this again.” – Carsten Tan Year 1
