On Monday night, 5 August, many excited girls and their female relatives enjoyed an evening to celebrate the changes they will encounter as they transition into womanhood! The Growing Up Puberty Night Girl’s Edition was a wonderful evening that concluded the Year 5 and 6 recent Health unit on Puberty. In this unit, we discussed the general changes that take place for both boys and girls during puberty.
The evening celebration designed to rejoice in God by acknowledging the wonderful bodies He has given us, and to dig a little deeper into what we can expect during puberty as girls and women. Over cupcakes, hot chocolate and friendship bands, Mrs Rachel Dalais lovingly discussed the inner strength and beauty of women and how God has created us to reflect His glory through the unique ways He has made and gifted us. We celebrated the wonder of God and how He has formed us.
Being able to discuss ‘growing as girls’ together as a school community is a superb opportunity for us to not only strengthen our familial bonds, but also recognise that bodily transitions are to be appreciated as a part of God’s good design. Reflecting upon our physical and emotional changes as well as our character development made for some poignant learning moments.
Here are some of the participants’ thoughts on the evening.
The Biblical thread, Celebrating Life, is a reminder to us that we can all celebrate the changing stages of life that God has given us and for the students to recognise how they can flourish as they grow older. This thread has permeated the teaching and learning of this unit and was seen in action on Monday night!
Puberty can be challenging transition for anyone! Chatting some of this through can make it much easier to navigate and remind us that we are not alone. The Puberty Night was a beautiful way for us to celebrate the changes that happen in our God-designed bodies.
A massive thanks goes to Mrs Dalais for her welcome contribution. We look forward to another celebration next year.
