From Rafts to Rap Songs

From raft-building and bushwalks to talent shows and toasting marshmallows, our Year 6 students embraced every moment of their Boshack adventure. Along the way, they grew in courage, friendship, and faith.

Highlights from our Year 6 Camp to Boshack! | Wednesday – Friday 17-19 September

Our Year 6 students set off on their much-anticipated camp to Boshack Eco Farm Stay near Toodyay. For many, this was their very first time away from home, and our theme of conquering fears ran through not only our daily devotions but also the way students embraced each new challenge with courage and enthusiasm.

From the moment we arrived, the sense of adventure was in the air. On Wednesday, students were split into their three camp groups – Banksia, Eucalyptus, and Sheok – and rotated through a variety of hands-on activities. They learnt bush first aid, practised new skills, and even made their very own beeswax candles to take home as a memory of camp. Another highlight was raft building, where teamwork was key as students lashed together large crates and PVC piping before testing their creations on the water. The laughter and excitement were contagious as groups proudly launched their rafts and celebrated every successful float.

Canoeing was another favourite, with students having the opportunity to paddle on both days. For some, it was their very first time in a canoe, and it was wonderful to see how quickly they grew in confidence on the water. On Thursday, we ventured out on a long bushwalk, where students not only enjoyed the scenery but also had the chance to feed the farm’s friendly horses and alpacas. They also learned about the Aboriginal connections to the land, giving them a deeper appreciation for the rich history of the area. Around the farm, students explored freely – some loved feeding the chickens, ducks, and even a turkey, while others decided farmyard animals were better admired from a distance!

Evenings at camp were just as memorable. The highlight for many was our Talent Show on the last night. where students bravely showcased their gifts. We were treated to beautiful piano playing, clever and creative singing, and even an original rap written and performed by a group of boys. Of course, no talent show would be complete without a surprise staff performance – and our dance number certainly ended the night on a high! To close the evening, three of our Wilson students led us in worship, reminding us of our sovereign God who guided us and kept us safe throughout camp.

We can’t forget the food – what a treat! From delicious homemade meals to sweet snacks (including pancakes for breakfast), we truly felt spoiled and well-nourished for every adventure.

Beyond the activities, camp was a wonderful opportunity for our Kenwick and Wilson students to connect, building friendships that will carry them into secondary school next year. The students represented our school beautifully, with the Boshack staff even commenting on how tidy they’d cleaned and left their dorms and how impressed they were with the way our Christian ethos was lived out in such practical ways.

Camp was more than just three days away – it was a time of growth, fellowship, courage, and joy. We return with thankful hearts, praising God for His protection, His provision, and the memories made together.
