One very special moment was when we got to touch and hold a real meteorite that had been found right here in Western Australia.
On the very last day of Term 1, both of our Year 2 classes from Wilson had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Perth Observatory to celebrate the end of our Earth and Space Science unit.
Our day was filled with discovery and wonder as we rotated through four exciting sessions. One highlight was climbing the observatory tower to see the Perth-Lowell Telescope, where we learned about how helicopters and drones are used to explore Mars. We even got to make our own paper helicopters and launch them from the top of the tower – what fun it was to see them twirling down!
Another session helped us explore the solar system. We learned that the word “solar” simply means “sun.” To help us remember the order of the planets, we practised a fun saying: “My Very Energetic Mum Just Served Us Noodles.” This reminded us that even though the planets are far away, God knows each one by name – just like He knows us!

It felt cold and hard and was so heavy – our guide told us it weighs about as much as ten Year 2 students put together! We were amazed to think that something could travel all the way through space and land on Earth.
In our final station, we investigated how sundials work. We were fascinated to see how shadows move throughout the day, and we discovered a special sundial at the observatory that can tell the time with accuracy down to three minutes – any time of the year! This reminded us of how God created time and placed the sun, moon, and stars in the sky to help us mark days, seasons, and years.
Throughout the day, we were reminded of the greatness of God’s creation. The vastness of space, the precision of time, and the uniqueness of each planet reflect how powerful and creative our God is.
We returned to school filled with curiosity, gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for the world God has made. What a beautiful way to end the term!
