Our Year 6 students have embarked on an exciting journey this term, exploring the world of science. They’ve not only mastered the flow of electrons but also embraced their God-given duty to steward earth’s resources with wisdom and care.
Our Year 6 students have embarked on an exciting and enlightening journey in Science this term, diving into the fascinating world of electricity. This unit has provided students with both hands-on experience and deeper understanding – not only of how electricity works but also of how we, as stewards of God’s creation, can use energy responsibly and thoughtfully.
The students began by exploring how electricity flows through conductors, like copper wires, and how insulators – such as plastic, rubber, and wood – prevent the flow of electricity, keeping us safe. They then moved on to constructing series circuits and parallel circuits, investigating how each circuit functions differently. A highlight of the unit was a practical experiment where students tested which circuit configuration – series or parallel – would make a light bulb shine brighter. This sparked lively discussions and predictions as students observed, recorded results, and reflected on the science behind the brightness.
In addition to understanding circuits, our Year 6s explored different types of energy sources – including solar, wing, hydropower, and thermal energy. They examined how each type of energy is generated and the benefits and challenges of relying on renewable sources. Throughout these lessons, we emphasised the important truth that all energy ultimately comes from God, who has blessed us with the ability to understand and harness this energy for the good of His creation.
As part of our learning, we discussed what it means to be wise stewards of the Earth’s resources – reducing waste, caring for the environment, and exploring sustainable energy options. The students showed impressive thoughtfulness in recognising that, while energy is powerful and essential to modern life, we have a God-given responsibility to use it wisely and compassionately.
It’s been a joy to watch the students’ curiosity, creativity, and faith grow throughout this unit. We pray that this unit leaves students with a lasting understanding – both of how electricity works and of their role in using energy thoughtfully and responsibly for the good of others and the world around them.
