Rehoboth Christian College shone bright in the 2025 Write a Book in a Day challenge, raising $3,672 for childhood cancer research and taking home two national awards!
We are thrilled to share some exciting news from our Write a Book in a Day participation!
In August 2025, Rehoboth Christian College participated in the Write a Book in a Day. Write a Book in a Day is a fundraising and creative writing initiative where individuals work in teams to write, illustrate, and publish a complete children’s book within a single day. The event is hosted by The Kids’ Cancer Project to raise funds for childhood cancer research, encouraging teamwork, creativity, time management, and literacy skills. Many of the completed books are then shared with children in hospitals, bringing joy and inspiration to young readers across Australia.
This year, Rehoboth Christian College entered three student teams and a staff team, and on Thursday 13 November, the list of winners was announced. We are proud to celebrate these outstanding achievements for the following teams:
Our Middle School student team Orange Dogs, including Nicole Chandra, and Helena Palsuk as illustrators, as well as Keira Beaver, Hayley Lo, Tessa Perrot and Shiloh Robinson as writers, won Best Illustrated Book nationally with Boat, Spit and Shears. The judges praised the team’s “beautiful consistent style with feeling,” highlighting their advanced character design, challenging scene choices, and technical skills.
Our staff team, the Reho Righters, including Miss Creelman, Mr. de Bruyn, Mr. den Boer, Mr. Dougherty, Mr. Taylor, and Miss Jay as illustrator, won Best Book (Open Division) for A Tad Fishy. The judges described it as “a perfectly pitched book about expectations, competitiveness and growing up, that comes alive thanks to cracking dialogue, and simple (yet effective) illustrations.”
This incredible outcome is a testament to the creativity, dedication, and hard work of our students and staff, and especially our dedicated Head of English, Mrs. Erispe, who played a pivotal role in ensuring the entire day was a success. We would like to sincerely thank the entire Rehoboth community for its ongoing support, sponsorship and encouragement. We were cumulatively able to raise a total of $3672 in the lead-up to the day to go directly towards cancer research!
Most of all we give thanks to God, our ultimate Creator for this wonderful achievement, through whom we have the privilege of exercising the creative gifts He has blessed us with. We would once again would like to say a hearty ‘well done!’ to everyone who participated and cannot wait to participate again next year.
