Competition and Sportsmanship at Primary Athletics

It was great to be able to hold our athletics carnivals at a new venue this year.

It was great to be able to hold our athletics carnivals at a new venue this year.

We started the term with our two Athletics Carnivals this year. It made for a very busy, but enjoyable start!

On Tuesday 12 October, qualifying students in Years 3-6 competed in the Field Events, which included, Long Jump, Turbo Javelin, Shot Put and the 800m running race at Langford. Every student who participated in an event, earned valuable points for their house. It was a great morning and we want to say well done to all students who participated. A special mention to two year 6 students, Ikodiya Jonah Ikwuka who jumped 4.31m and Martin Santana who threw a turbo javelin 33m!

On Thursday 14 October, we had our sprints and team game day where all the Year 1-6 students from both campuses participated. The students were very excited, and it was great to see the Biz Kids being very busy spraying students’ hair in their house colours.

Each student ran in a running race, 60m for the Year 1 and 2 students, and 100m for the Year 3-6 students, earning valuable house points. Students in Year 3-6 who qualified also ran in the 200m and 400m running races. Throughout the day, all year groups participated in a range of team games, where it was great to see a healthy sense of competition between houses but also great teamwork skills within each house.

It was a very fun day with family members getting involved in the toddler race and a parents’ race – Congratulations Mr Matthews!

A big thank you to all staff, students and families who helped to make both days a great success, especially Mrs Marmion, for all your hard work behind the scenes. It was great to be able to hold it at a new venue this year and we look forward to seeing how we can continue to make this a wonderful day of competition and sportsmanship.

Mr Hunter did another wonderful job as MC commentating each race and encouraging spectator participation.

Well done Rehoboth!
