Chinese Storytelling Competition

Chinese Storytelling Competition

Congratulations to each student who did a wonderful job storytelling and for their hard work and efforts!

Two of our Secondary students, Jessie Boog and Gracie Chong, and two of our Wilson Primary students, Maggie Liu and Phoebe Zhang participated in a state-wide Chinese storytelling competition on Saturday 1 April at UWA.

The competition is held by the Chinese Language Teacher’s Association of WA (CLTAWA). The competition is designed for students with a Mandarin-speaking background. This year is the first year that the competition resumed after 3 years of Covid restrictions. As part of the competition, students need to present a Chinese story in front of an audience of almost 200 people.

Both of our Secondary students, Jessie and Gracie put in a tremendous effort in their preparation. Although they did not get the top three places, they did an amazing job as this was their first time presenting a story in Mandarin in front of a large audience. They were awarded with participation reward certificates.

Maggie is 6 years of age and is the youngest of the junior group and was very nervous before the competition. With lots of prayer and encouragement, she managed to bravely stand on stage and complete her storytelling. We are extremely proud of her to have overcome her feat of public speaking. Another Wilson Primary participant, Phoebe has always been so quiet and gentle when speaking, but did a brilliant job in winning 5th place across the state!

Congratulations to each student who did a wonderful job storytelling and for their hard work and efforts! Thank you to the many families and the Rehoboth community for supporting the students in their Mandarin learning. As Mandarin is used as a native language by about one-fifth of the world’s population, God has given us a great privilege to expand our skills to share the gospel. My prayer is that the Lord will continue to guide us in His wisdom to use our language skills for His kingdom purposes.
