A Busy Start to Term 2 for Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Red has had a busy Term 2 and we are looking forward to our learning.

STEM

This year, we have been challenged to use a range of skills in our STEM classes. We had to design and construct a device to levitate a ping pong ball and make a balloon rocket. We also needed to construct a parachute and protection device to safely drop an egg from a given height. Sadly, all of our egg friends perished in the attempt, but we did learn a lot of Science and Engineering concepts along the way.

Cooking

Whilst the majority of our class is in the choir, some of us have been learning how to decorate food. We designed our dream cupcakes and then used icing sugar, lollies and our skills to produce amazing masterpieces. We did this twice and had our efforts judged by Mr Norman and Mrs Crosby. Most of all, we enjoyed eating our creations at lunch time!

Term 2 Novel Study

We are very excited to be reading the book, Ranger’s Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan as our novel study this Term. It tells the story of a young boy who becomes apprenticed to the ranger, Halt. The story looks at themes of heroism and courage in spite of circumstances. So far, we have read the first three chapters.
