Stepping away from routine often creates space for growth, reflection, and deeper connection. During their Year 6 camp, students were challenged to build courage, strengthen relationships, and trust in God as they prepared for the transition into secondary school.
A recent highlight for our Year 6 students was their much-anticipated camp to Boshack Eco Farm Stay near Toodyay. For many, this was their first time away from home, and throughout the three days our theme of conquering fears through faith was intentionally woven into both our daily devotions and our shared experiences. Students were encouraged to step out in courage, trusting in God’s strength and remembering that He is with us in both the exciting and the uncertain moments of life.
From the moment we arrived, a sense of adventure and anticipation filled the air. Students were placed into three camp groups: Banksia, Eucalyptus, and Sheoak, and rotated through a variety of hands-on activities designed to build resilience, teamwork, and confidence. Through bush first aid, students developed practical problem-solving skills and an understanding of caring for others. Candle making provided a creative outlet, while raft building challenged students to collaborate, communicate effectively, and persevere as they constructed and tested their designs on the water.
Canoeing was a highlight for many, particularly for those stepping into something new for the first time. It was wonderful to see students grow in confidence as they navigated the water, supporting and encouraging one another. Ours students went Crystal digging on the first day, searching through the red dirt for pieces of quartz. This sparked curiosity and excitement, while also teaching patience and persistence.
Students also enjoyed engaging with the farm environment, feeding the geese, chickens and ducks, and exploring the property. Net fishing proved especially popular, with students delighting in catching small fish. While the larger fish and turtles we spotted at night remained just out of reach, these moments created a sense of wonder and appreciation for God’s creation.
Each activity was designed not only for enjoyment but to support key learning outcomes, including developing independence, building positive relationships, strengthening communication skills, and encouraging students to take healthy risks in a supportive environment. Camp also provided a valuable opportunity for our Kenwick and Wilson students to deepen connections as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Evenings brought time for reflection and celebration. Our Talent Show was a standout, with students courageously sharing their gifts through singing, dancing, and creative performances. It was a joy to see students step out of their comfort zones and support one another so wholeheartedly. We also spent time in worship and devotion, grounding our experiences in the reminder of God’s faithfulness, provision, and care.
Camp was far more than just time away, it was a meaningful experience of growth, fellowship, and faith in action. We are thankful to God for His protection over our time away and for the many memories, friendships, and moments of courage that were formed.
