Our Year 1 Red classroom at Wilson has been buzzing with excitement and learning as students embrace new routines, make new friends, and thrive in our Christ-centred community.
The first few weeks of school in the Year 1 Red classroom at Wilson have been full of fun excitement, and lots of learning! Our students have settled in beautifully, embracing new routines and growing in confidence each day. It has been a joy to see their enthusiasm as they embark on this new chapter of their learning journey.
We have been focusing on establishing positive relationships with each other and building a strong classroom community. As a class, we have spent time getting to know one another through many group games and activities that strengthen trust and respect. These shared experiences have helped the students form friendships and develop a sense of belonging in our Year 1 family.
A significant part of our learning has been understanding and living out the Rehoboth School Norms. As followers of Jesus Christ, we strive to: Come Ready, Work Together, Make Good Choices, Work Hard, and Be Kind. These principles have been explicitly taught, and it has been great to see students actively demonstrating them in the classroom and beyond. Through discussions and role-playing activities, we have explored how our choices can reflect God’s love and grace in our interactions with others.
In addition to developing strong relationships, students have been engaged in a range of hands-on learning activities across various subjects. Whether exploring new concepts in Maths, Literacy, Science, and HASS, or participating in creative activities, the students have shown a great eagerness to learn new things. They have also been enjoying learning more about God’s creation and His people, as we dive deeper into Bible stories from the book of Genesis.
A special highlight in our classroom was celebrating Chinese New Year earlier this term. We were blessed to have one of our wonderful class mums visit us to share about this vibrant celebration. She provided an amazing cultural learning experience by bringing in traditional Chinese costumes, red packets, and food symbolic of the occasion. She also taught us some simple Chinese phrases of blessings and wishes, allowing us to experience a rich part of Chinese culture firsthand. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to expand their understanding of global traditions and appreciate the beauty of diversity within God’s world.
Overall, it has been a fantastic start to the year! The students have embraced new experiences, made new friends, and grown in their understanding of what it means to be part of a Christ-centred learning community. We are excited to see where this journey takes us and look forward to many more memorable experiences together in Year 1!
