A Symphony of Stories: Book Week 2026

We had a wonderful Book Week this year! It was jam-packed with joy, community, creativity and plenty of fun. The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme, ‘Symphony of Stories,’ invited us to think about how stories come together like beautiful music—each one unique, yet all contributing to a bigger, harmonious picture.

As a Christian community, this theme gave us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the Bible as a symphony of stories. Across the books of the Bible, we see different stories woven together to reveal God’s greater story of creation, redemption and salvation through Jesus. In the Library, we explored the Psalms and celebrated the joy of singing praises to God. This connected beautifully with our school-wide focus on Scripture memorisation, as students have been learning and reflecting on the Psalms together.

It is always a joy to celebrate Book Week at Rehoboth, and it is a particularly special time to come together as a community. This year, we added a Book Fair to our celebrations, and it was wonderful to see parents, grandparents, staff and students sharing in the joy of finding a much-loved classic or discovering a new favourite. The Book Fair was filled with excitement as students browsed the collection, made purchases, wrote individual wish lists and contributed to a class wish list with ideas for future Library purchases. It was also a wonderful opportunity for me to discover more about the books our students love, from Kindy through to Year 6. Thank you to our wonderful school community for supporting the Book Fair! Through the generous support and purchases of our families, we have been able to purchase new books for our Library, helping us continue to grow and provide a wonderful collection of stories for our students to enjoy.

As part of our Book Week celebrations, one student from each year group was selected to receive the Book Week Library Award. These awards recognised students who demonstrated the Rehoboth norm of Being Kind to Others by thoughtfully caring for our Library. Whether helping someone find a book, returning books to their correct place or simply helping to make the library a welcoming place for everyone, these students showed us that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Each award recipient received a $10 Book Fair voucher, which they could use to choose a special book. Congratulations to all our award winners!

Across the school, Book Week celebrations took many different forms. In Early Childhood, outdoor, book-inspired provocations encouraged students to step into the world of beloved nursery rhymes. Students made hot cross buns, played on Old MacDonald’s farm, sang and danced with scarves around the mulberry bush, and even put on a pot of tea with Miss Polly.

In the Library, our music-inspired theme transformed the space into a stage where stories and characters could come to life. Students proudly posed in their fabulous costumes, whilst students in library class acted out key parts of stories during story time.

Throughout the week, the library was filled with opportunities to celebrate not only books, but the people and stories that have shaped us. During our Dress-Up Day, students could create bookmarks, write a thank-you card to someone who has been an important part of their story, and contribute to our Interactive Praise Wall, giving thanks to God for all He has done.

The highlight of the week was our Book Week Dress-Up Day on Wednesday, 12 August. This is always a favourite event, and this year’s celebration showed just how much creativity, imagination and joy our students have!

From a whole class of Minions and a flock of Where Is the Green Sheep? sheep, to Bible characters and nursery rhyme favourites, there was something wonderful around every corner. Our Early Childhood staff were singing all the way through their nursery rhyme costumes, with characters ranging from Incy Wincy Spider to the Three Blind Mice.

The Gym was filled with excitement as students from Kindergarten to Year 6 paraded their costumes, while parents, teachers and classmates cheered them on. There was so much joy, colour and creativity—it truly felt like a wonderful symphony of stories coming together!

After the parade, the Book Fair opened its doors, keeping the excitement and buzz of the morning going.

Book Week 2026 was a joyful celebration of the many different stories that make up our community. Throughout the week, students encouraged, helped and inspired one another, living out our Biblical thread of “Building Community.”

The theme Symphony of Stories provided a beautiful reminder that, just like music, each person has a unique part to play. As Scripture reminds us, we are “one body in Christ” (Romans 12:5), with different gifts, roles and stories, yet united together.

Our stories are different, but they can be woven together into something beautiful. Most importantly, our individual stories are part of God’s much greater story—the story of His creation, His love for His people, and His redemption through Jesus Christ.

What a privilege it is to celebrate stories, encourage a love of reading, and build community together!

I can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Book Week 2026—our students, families, teachers, staff and wider school community. Your support, creativity and joy helped make this a truly wonderful celebration of stories.
