A Cause for Celebration: Wilson Gym Opening with Colin Buchanan

On Wednesday 20 March we celebrated the opening of our Gym at the Wilson Campus

We started the evening off with a picnic outside the Gym and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying their meal together.

This was followed by the official opening where we heard from the Building Task Group Chairman, Mr Ben van der Kooy, who shared a video about the development of Wilson as a whole and specifically the latest new facilities. The members of the group, Mr Peter Bolt, Mr John Terpstra and Mr Jackson Chiang have spent many hours working on this project and the result is well worth it. God’s faithfulness and providence was evident as we saw how He has provided for Rehoboth over many years.

Thanks were extended to some of the many people who worked so hard to make the dream a reality! To Mapel Building who have partnered with us for a number of our major builds, the Department of Education which has assisted with low interest loans, and to the City of Canning and Federal Capital Grants Authority who made contributions that allowed us to purchase the land. We also give thanks for the many families who continue to faithfully support Rehoboth in its mission with their donations towards the Building Fund.

Our Facilities Manager has worked tirelessly and diligently throughout this project, as he does in every other area for which he is responsible. My personal thanks go to him for his ability to see what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and then to make sure that it is done properly.

Mrs Nicole Pleysier used her amazing interior decorating gifts to ensure that this building is not only a practical place in which to work but also a beautiful one. She commissioned a couple of our former students to provide some art work and you will see a stunning wood-carving in the foyer made by Chelsea Pleysier as well as some lovely drawings by Rebecca Heggers in the Principal’s office.

Our own Administration Assistant, Mrs Thelma Muilenburg, has done an excellent job in preparing the Staff Room and the Reception areas to be welcoming places for staff, students, parents and visitors to the College. I thank our staff for their patience as we sought to get everything just right and trust that they will enjoy using our fantastic new facilities for many years to come.

We finished with prayers of thankfulness to our gracious God for the mighty work that He is doing in Rehoboth, and that we might glorify Him as we make use the new facilities.

The undisputed highlight of the evening came as we welcomed the one and only Colin Buchanan to the stage for a fun-filled and very energetic concert which included many of the children’s favourite songs, audience participation and some special moments for students who were invited to perform on stage with him.

It was a night to remember and truly a cause for celebration for our whole Rehoboth community!
