Wycliffe Wins Soccer Final

Interhouse Soccer Tournament - The Winning Goal

The Grand Final proved to be an EPIC clash between Tyndale and Wycliffe. With both teams determined to win, the ball was constantly contested. Players struggled to position themselves to take the shots at goal they wanted. With much encouraging and support from the sideline, players were enthusiastically playing their best together as a team.

In the first half, it was Wycliffe who had the majority of the ball in their forward line. Kory and fellow defenders proved difficult to get past in the midfield.

However, it was the Tyndale defenders, and Ashton in goals, that saved the game time after time. At full time, with neither team being able to score a single goal despite a number of shots and near misses, a ten-minute golden goal period started. Neither team wanted to endure the torment of a penalty shoot-out that finished last year’s final. And so, it was David Okiwelu who broke through a dazed and tired Tyndale defence, to seal the winning goal. Wycliffe roared in victory, relieved to win so emphatically. Hugs and high fives followed, then a team photo with the trophy.

2015 Interhouse soccer champions are Wycliffe! Next year, they have the chance to defend their crown, while Newton and Tyndale will do everything they can to take it off them.

Well done to all those involved: Mr de Bruyn for refereeing, Mr Peletier and Mr Hunter for coaching, and parents, staff, and students for supporting this fun and competitive tournament.
