Visual Arts: You Human Yet?

Art excursion

During Term 1 we had two very important and informative art excursions.

The first was on 23 March when we visited the Year 12 Perspectives Exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA with both the Year 11 and Year 12 Visual Arts General students. We travelled on the new bus to the Gallery which saved a lot of time as we used to walk to the train. Both year groups enjoyed seeing last year’s cream of the top Visual Arts students from across the whole of WA. Year 11 students particularly liked an artwork entitled Adam, You Human Yet? which was a drawing using a ballpoint pen on paper by a Rossmoyne Senior High School student.

The second excursion was to the Canning River Eco Education Centre on 6 April with the Year 11 Visual Arts General students, together with the Year 8B Visual Arts students. We were given a highly informative talk and demonstration by a Noongar elder on the Indigenous Six Seasons, which is the focus for the Year 11 current art project. We learned a great deal about the local customs of the Noongar peoples as well as the bush tucker plants in this area. Both year groups really enjoyed the excursion.

The Centre is in a beautiful location, complete with a coffee shop, where I intend to take future art students for drawing and painting opportunities. It is well worth a visit!
