Library Literacy

IMG_5664We have had a lot of fun in Literature classes in Semester 1.

In the Year 3 Literature class we have enjoyed escaping into the world of Narnia. The children were enthralled by the action and adventure in the story of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis, and recreated a map of Narnia, highlighting the major events in the story. We did a character study on the main characters and learnt that the story was an allegory of the story of Jesus.

In the Year 2/3 literature class we became friends with Pippi Longstocking, Annika and Thomas, horse and Mr Nillson. We laughed at many of Pippi’s funny antics, her remarkable manners and how brave and strong she was. We also looked at the illustrations in the book and the techniques that were used to create the pictures. We then created our own favourite scenes of the story using some of the same techniques. We had a lot of fun and were able to retell the story from our own pictures.

In Year 2, The Tale Of Desperaux has kept us entertained and amused throughout Term 2. We have learnt some fabulous new words like “egregious” and “perfidy” and we are looking forward to finding out what happens to Desperaux, the mouse, Chiaroscuro, the bad rat, and Miggery Sow, the maid who wants to be a princess.

The Year 1 classes have enjoyed listening to and creating their own poetry. Hickory Dickory Dock now has ten verses as the mouse, and lots of other animals too, ran up the clock. Not just at 1 o’clock but at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 o’clock as well!

Hickory Dickory Dock, the emu ran up the clock

The clock struck 2

The emu said “Boo!”

Hickory Dickory Dock!
