TESLA is a STEM initiative being held at Rehoboth Christian College during 2016.

STEM stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The Department of Education has made STEM a priority across schools in Australia. Students with training in STEM open themselves up to an incredibly diverse array of job opportunities as part of a rapidly growing industry. Click here to find out more information.

At Rehoboth we feel it is our responsibility to ensure our students have access to these opportunities, which is why we’re introducing TESLA:

TESLA stands for: Technology, Engineering, and Science Learning Academy (my favourite acronym to date!)

Our initial aim is to focus on computer coding and robotics. It is an opportunity for students to learn skills that are much sought-after in today’s ever changing workforce, while embodying the four C’s of Rehoboth’s Locus2019 strategy: Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking, and Creativity.

Why Tesla?

Nikola Tesla was an engineer, physicist, and inventor. He revolutionised modern life with his inventions and was called a visionary, embodying all that STEM aims to achieve.

What will TESLA will look like at Rehoboth?
  • Launching on Tuesday 24 May – Week 5 of Term 2 (that’s this Term!)
  • Will be open to all current Year 9 students through an application process
  • Will run after school on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15pm
  • Will introduce students to computer coding using the students’ Chromebooks, creating animations, simple games, and programming robots

The program will be run by myself (Mr Taylor) and Mr Vasquez (Head of Science)

Any parents with knowledge and skills in programming and coding who would like to provide support or simply be involved, don’t hesitate to contact me by email.

Long term, we want to see this become integrated into our regular Science and Maths Curriculum and across multiple year groups.

Mr P Taylor
